Birth Story

Mummy was to go for induction on the morning of 9 Mar 2008 due to low level of amniotic fluid (5.1cm).

9 Mar 2008
2am Proceed to KKH
3am Was directed to KKH delivery suite (08) for Prositin pill insertion and strapped to CTG
6am Admitted to ward to wait some more as there was no dilation
9am Went to delivery suite (20) for 2nd Prosition pill and again strapped to CTG
12pm Dr Han don't sound optimistic as there was no dilation and was prepared for worst case scenario of C-section
1pm Went back to ward to wait and Pray...
4pm Contraction kick in at every 3 mins
Mummy started complaining of pain and nurses suggested Pethine injection and we all went back to the delivery suite
6pm Went to delivery suite (06). Must be the lucky number. Nurse checked for dilation, only 1cm
Mummy keep asking for Epidural
Luckily, when we are about to be shoo-ed back to the ward, Dr Han came in! Checked that dilation was 1.5cm and Dr went for the procedure to break water bag. Dr used a stick like instrument and nurse had to press on tummy to break the water bag.
After water bag was burst, Mummy could go for the epidural. Second good news. Mummy had to bend her back like slouching for the anesthetist to inject the epidural tube.
Mummy was then put on a drip
7pm Was put on Oxytocin to help in dilation
9pm Only 3cm dilated
11pm Suddenly, Phoebe's heartbeat dropped drastically. Think all of us, Mummy, Daddy, nurses and doctors were given a bad scare. Mummy was put on Oxygen mask and an injection was given to boost Phoebe's heartbeat.

Mummy and Daddy were very worried. As the dilation is not progressing as planned, Dr Han was saying we need to go for c-section. We prayed for help...

12mn Checked that Mummy was 7cm dilated. We were all very happy and could finally smile! Dr Han was very optimistic and said that we could all see Phoebe at 1am.

10 Mar 2008
1am Checked that Mummy was fully dilated and nurses start to prepare for pushing
Epidural was switched off. Mummy was told to take in deep breaths before the contraction kicks in. And start to push like having constipation feeling when the contractions start.
Mummy was feeling very very uncomfortable. I don't feel anything and push with all my might. But the nurse was saying its the wrong place. Mummy was pushing on her face and shoulders. Gradually, Mummy got the hang of it. But the nurse scare her by saying if she don't use her might, the Dr is going to use the forceps.
Dr Han came in, he said that a few more pushes to go only. Daddy could see Phoebe's hair. Daddy asked Mummy to "Jia You". Mummy sort of float away from the commotion. Mummy pushed with all her might. Dr Han started doing some "snipping away" and with a few more pushes. Phoebe slided out. Daddy said Phoebe was a bit purplish and then she started wriggling. The nurse checked and cleaned Phoebe up and put her in the warmer. Mummy was given a jab and then stitched up by the Dr. Mummy was checked by the nurse as she had a slight fever and started vomiting when she was put in the wheelchair.

3am Mummy was wheeled to the ward. Phoebe was put in the nursery. Daddy saw that all of us are settled down before heading home to rest too.
